Beaufort Heights Leads the Way in New Construction
Building confidence remains high at Mount Washington despite a recent economic downturn in Canada, and a softening of housing prices.
Perhaps the most visible evidence can be seen in Beaufort Heights, the newest area at the Resort located on the hillside above Nordic Road.
“With the success of the new lot sales in Beaufort Heights, interest is strong in new construction,” says Rick Gibson, Realtor with Royal LePage in the Comox Valley.
“Already there are six homes under construction and rumour has it another dozen will start in summer 2009.”
Dirk Nagtegaal of Campbell River aims to have his chalet open and ready for rental by Christmas 2008. His building, overlooks Nordic Road and Strathcona Provincial Park.
“It's kind of exciting to be part of that” new construction boom, says Nagtegaal, who invested in the Beaufort Heights lot along with several family members. The family intends to use the chalet part of the winter and rent it out to help offset building costs.
“I thought it would be a reasonable investment,” he said. Nagtegaal had been searching for recreational property when he ran across a listing for Beaufort Heights. Since his family members - including four grown children - all have skied and enjoy walking the trails around Mount Washington and Paradise Meadows, he felt a chalet would be suitable.
“It's a beautiful facility,” he says of Mount Washington. And with the push to expand real estate at the Alpine Resort “it seemed like it was going in the right direction.”
