Continued success for Ski Club’s Nancy Greene Program
The Mount Washington Ski Club is hoping to see big things from a small program they implemented last year.
Numbers in the Nancy Greene Ski League took a big leap last season, rising to 82 athletes. Head Ski Club Coach John Trimmer attributes that to a new half-day program for four- and five-year-old skiers.
They held morning and afternoon sessions for first-timers to the Club, which helped prepare parents and skiers for the Nancy Greene Program, which takes kids starting at age 5.
“A lot of people think of us as just a ski club. We’re creating great skiers at a younger age,” Trimmer said. “We are all about athlete development, development of the whole athlete. Our No. 1 goal is to create great skiers and have fun doing it.”
In the competitive stream, Trimmer took a group to Colorado in November for 11 days of training at Copper Mountain.
Another new project for the Ski Club this season is a 1,600-square-foot addition to its cabin. The Nancy Greene area is larger to accommodate more families, and the storage area in the basement was expanded. Two large garage doors were added so equipment can be driven right into the storage area and no longer has to be unpacked.
“It was to give all our members of our Club a bigger area that was easier to get around in,” Trimmer said.
