Emcon won the government road maintenance contract earlier this year, beating out previous contract holder Mainroad Contracting. Mainroad had sub-contracted road clearing to staff at Mount Washington for the past several years.
“They (Emcon) are committed to maintaining the road to the standard of any Class A highway in the province, and I’ve been assured by the Minister of Transportation that that standard will be maintained,” said Resort General Manager Peter Gibson.
Mount Washington will still handle snow removal in their parking lots and have also been plowing Foster’s Place and Henry Road, Public Relations Director Dave Hampshire said.
