Strathcona Nordics Update

The Strathcona Nordics Cross Country Ski Club is preparing to host a second International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup Event in March 2009.

One of the Club’s goals is to work for the improvement and development of cross-country ski facilities on Vancouver Island. Mount Washington boasts 55 kilometres of track set and skating trails, which club members utilize throughout the winter.

The Nordics offer a variety of programs under the Rabbit Skill Development umbrella. Skiers aged four and five years enroll in the Bunnyrabbit program, which introduces them to Nordic skiing. The Jackrabbit program is for skiers ages six to 12 years.

There are also programs for youth, masters, biathlon and backcountry skiing, as well as coach and official certification courses. Courses range from adventure programs teaching backcountry skills to development and racing.

Rabbit Skill Development programs begin at Raven Lodge on Saturday, Jan. 3 or Sunday, Jan. 4 and run until Saturday, March 7 or Sunday, March 8.
