Wilderness Centre to Open Summer 2009

Situated at the Trailhead into Paradise Meadows, Forbidden Plateau and the dramatic Island mountain range the new Wilderness Centre construction reached lock up before the heavy snows fell.

The Strathcona Wilderness Institute says it will be operational for next year’s wilderness adventures.

With a donation of 1.5 acres (approximate $160,000 value) from Mount Washington, the Rotary Club of Campbell River stepped up to assist Strathcona Wilderness Institute and BC Parks realize their long awaited vision of a sub-alpine trail accessible to everyone and a permanent home for SWI’s Wilderness Centre.

SWI operated out of a trailer in the parking lot last summer, but is looking forward to being in their new home and ready to serve the estimated 40,000 visitors that come through this portal.
